Norman Homes for Sale

Norman Oklahoma is the largest city in Cleveland County, and is the seat of County government. Norman is around 20 miles south of the Oklahoma City limits, and is now the third largest city in Oklahoma after Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The population as of 2006 is 102,827 full time residents, and the population is larger due to students at The University of Oklahoma which has around 35,000 students. The University brings education and culture to Norman, and it has more national merit Scholars per capita attending than any other public institution. OU also has a world class natural science museum, The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, and also the Fred Jones Museum of Art is well recognized. In 2008 Money Magazine rated Norman the 6th best place to live in America.

Norman is also home to major employers besides the University. The U.S. Severe Storms Laboratory on Highway 9 has around 300 full and part time employees and also has a joint venture with OU on a meteorological school. The U.S Postal Training School is located east of this also on Highway 9. Norman is attracting high tech companies like Southwest Nano Technologies, and is the home of world renowned Bergey Wind Power, an advanced company for small wind power solutions. Other companies like York, Hitachi, Astellas Pharma have significant presence in Norman. The 4th largest retail center in America University North Park is located on the border of I-35 on Normans’ North side.

Beautiful Oklahoma

Oklahoma comes from the Choctaw Indian phrase okla humma, or Red People. Choctaw Chief Allen Wright suggested the name in 1866, when Oklahoma was Indian Territory, and the tribes envisioned an all Indian State of the United States. That changed in 1889, when the famous Run of Oklahoma transformed the land into Oklahoma Territory, where citizens come come for a free 160 acres of land.
